The Bancroft Tower

Sundays in New England are interesting for me. It normally has two routes, I either try to catch up on sleep or i’m up early trying to find a way to make use of my time. This particular Sunday started with the intent or detailing Shelly’s car and maybe picking away at my car that’s been rotting away in the garage.
After a phone call and terrible planning we found ourselves at the top of Bancroft Tower. Jayro who owns this silver 2015 STI, was sent an invitation for a music video and extended the invite to us. I figured why not, I could get more acquainted with my camera bringing you guys fresh content. We beat everyone to the location because of miscommunication. It was great for me since it gave me a few hours to use up the spot for what I wanted to shoot, the down side was that I was starving.
While Shelly and Jayro were cleaning their cars, I couldn’t help but think about how much beauty there is in the area. Worcester isn’t exactly the most popular tourist attraction. Depending on who you talk to, Worcester is normally talked about in a somewhat of a derogatory manner majority of the time, this is one of the few exceptions. The tower was pretty much across the street from Worcester Polytechnic Institute meaning it was full of people going to and from places followed by an extremely busy Park Ave. Despite being in such a urban area, the tower is able to bring a calmer quieter vibe to offset the insanity. In other words it was a beautiful place to shoot.
With the weather finally coming around and a location that is new to me, I was excited to shoot two cars with similar setups but such different styles.
Sort of Twins
Right away you can see that both cars have their own unique style, Jayro’s car fits the more traditional stance genre where Shelly’s car dances the line between function and form. I don’t want to get too deep into Shelly’s car since she’ll have her own post in the near future mostly to review the Air Lift 3P kit so be on the look out.
Her car is extremely subtle in comparison to Jayros car. Air suspension, oem style front lip, wheels and a catback to list the exterior modifications. Its almost too stock for her liking, but its hard for her to stray away from such a clean look. NT03 +M’s are by no means super sought after or everyone’s go to wheel but it definitely has a place in the “Damn that’s clean” category. Now when people think air suspension people normally associate huge wheels with huge lips and a tiny tire on it to be as fitted and as low as possible. Now that may be true but it is also totally possible to tuck a mediocre size wheel wrapped in a 245 width tire with a very slight stretch. Just look up.
On the opposite end of the spectrum Jayro has a more aggressive wheel setup. It took quite a bit of effort but we were able to shove a 10.5” wheel in there. Now to many of you that may not seem like a very wide and aggressive setup, but Subarus have a wide track so running a large wheel with a low offset requires some “massaging” and science.
Jayro was a major factor in convincing us that air is the way. Sporting the same Air lift 3p kit as Shelly, he was able to get that fender to lip height when its air’d out. To compliment the rear fitment he added an aggressive Strafe Design rear diffuser that tries to hide the massive Tomei Expreme cat-back exhaust. A Strafe Design side step kit was added to the side skirts as well as their front splitter which is mated to the Chargespeed style front lip to give it that extra length in the nose end of the car. It might sound crazy to say but for the most part this car is just as subtle as Shelly’s car. It just has a tiny bit more Bling.
Back to the video shoot
For anyone wondering I did not get content of any kind of the music video. While were waiting a few people showed up that were a part of this music video. Now mind you we got to the tower around 3pm and people started showing up around 4:30 or so and I am still starving. The entire time I was just thinking about food and when they were going to shoot this so we could wrap up and get sushi. Then out of nowhere a Mercedes SLR Mclaren shows up followed by a Ferrari GTC4 Lusso. Two cars that I have never seen in the flesh.
Needless to say it turned out great for their music video. We made a little cameo which is probably hilarious because I 100% look dumb but it was fun. The overall shoot took just over an hour or so, which was the longest hour or so ever. You can imagine how fast we shot to the restaurant after they told us it was a wrap.
All in all it wasn’t a bad way to spend a Sunday. Super spontaneous but thats what makes life fun.
Look for more content in the near future including a deeper look into shellys car + a review on the newly installed Air Lift 3p kit, World of Wheels coverage and the Lock City season opener coverage.
