Wolfsgart 2019

UPDATE:

I’ve been getting lots of inquiries about the T-shirt status and i’m here to tell everyone not to worry. The printing was delayed due to a minor design miscommunication between us and the printing company but it is all sorted out and being printed as we speak! As we make progress there will be live updates on all social media platforms to keep all of our readers in the loop. They will be arriving and flying out the door as soon as they get in. Thank you all for your patience, it really means the world.

Party in the mountains:

I’ve resided in New England long enough for people to assume that I’ve visited at least 80% of the popular areas in the neighboring states. Unfortunately that is completely false. Places like White Mountains, anywhere in Maine, and Cape Cod to name a few spots, are some of the local areas that people tend to flock to. I just don’t give it the time of day until this day. Welcome to my day trip to Burlington, Vermont.

We started the morning a bit late ( If you know me personally you’d know that its pretty normal) but it was still early enough to miss the traffic. We were heading 3 and a half hours north of my home that day with just the essentials. My camera gear, money, company, gas, and some tools. This was a test to see if the car would evidently make it there and back without a problem as we would be driving a similar distance for WekFest. The trip up wasn’t anything I expected, the further north you went the greener it became. Vermont was beautiful in its own way.

The first leg of the trip lead us to some really nice back roads which was a nice way to keep me from falling asleep. About half way through we stopped for snacks and to stretch a bit before getting on to the highway. This happened to be a common stop for everyone in our area going to the show. The locals knew something was happening near by. This was a good indication that the event is 1. going to be fairly large, and 2. we were getting close.

Fast forward a bit, we rolled into Burlington finally. It was a small community, very much like the Umass Amherst area if I were to compare it to something. We were greeted by tons of cars roaming the streets, the local car wash which was conveniently placed across the street from the venue was in full affect.

I’ve personally never been to this event. I’ve heard so many stories about this show over the past 5 years. Most of the stories stem from the campgrounds that they provide for a fee which id imagine to be more fun than the show itself. Oh i forgot to mention Wolfsgart is a Euro show that has expanded its horizons to accept other makes a models. You can tell by the crowd that they still stick to tradition as some of the best Euro builds came out to show how to properly build a winning car.

Then you have some of these sneaky little jap toys making their way in to mix up the show. I don’t know the owner of this car but I have seen this in many H20I videos. Liveries are super cool, its extremely cool when you pay homage to a major player in the game like HKS. Very period correct.

To add on to period correct ( which the Volkswagen crowd does exceptionally) this VW Bus had everything to make a cool party van. The little details that were restored and improved made this one of the cooler vans I’ve seen. Did I mention it had a kitchen?

Yeah, you’re seeing this right. The bus had what looked like another bus behind it when it was pulling in. To my surprise it was a whole kitchen/ Dining area back there. Who needs a hotel when you have a cool mobile home.

You’ll quickly figure out that I know absolute zero about euros, but I do know what’s cool. Teal cars usually don’t attract me, but this shade is gorgeous. It definitely suits the car… well truck.

The show was large outside, but the sun was way too harsh to shoot anything halfway decent. Luckily the top tier builds were placed inside. These were the elite aka The Alpha Class. One of my personal favorites is a car that I have zero knowledge on. All I know is that they brought this gem down from Quebec and its rad. The Oz wheels give the car a very classic DTM with a bit of rally inspiration feel to it.

Not sure if they’re friends or placed here by chance but it definitely follows the theme. The headlight housing makes the front end look more like an escort.

After years of seeing these machines on the internet, I was finally face to face with a real Rauh-Welt Begriff Porsche. Nakai-San’s work really is something special. Saying its a work of art may be an understatement.

To add on to the wild list is this slant nose Porsche. Also another first for me to see in person. I used to love this kit, now i prefer the factory body. It might be an age thing.

Slammed beetles, many people could probably relate to the fact that this is one of my guilty pleasures. Ones with this great of an execution make it hard not to love.

Although every build was different at this event, I noticed one common trend… details. Every car had its own unique detail to show off making it more enjoyable to peel back the layers of each build. For instance this car had polished as many things as possible. Look at the hood latch, polished to match the hood prop and other bits in the engine bay. Sick!

Super super clean right hand drive MK2 Golf (I think). The color combo reminded me of when the stance scene was starting to mainstream in 2010. I was reminded on this day where “stance” got their influence from. The euro guys definitely know how to do fitment.

Slammed Harlequin from Canada? Yes please!

Lowcar Limbo:

It was hot, extremely how that day. It didn’t help that we were damn near the top of the mountain with the sun at its highest point beaming down on us like ants. We lurked around the indoor portion of the show for a while just to avoid the heat, but at some point we would have to make our way back out for food. After having a mediocre lunch we found ourselves waiting for the low car limbo to start. This is a two day event and lucky for us today’s limbo was setup for cars strictly on air.

It took some time, but they were able to round up a few brave contestants for this silly yet entertaining portion of the event.

The limbo was the last part of the show. Following that would be the famous Wolf Run, which we didn’t attend. We decided to head up to a friends hotel to kick it before the aired out event and the cruise in the city….or so we thought.

The Mistake:

While driving to the hotel, we noticed the car was making quite a bit of noise. The whining power steering pump kind of noise. Now, I was aware that the car had a leak on the rack when we had it on the lift but it wasn’t large enough to take action on at the moment so we let it go. What I didn’t know was that this was a common issue on 15+ VA chassis Subaru. Well lucky us we found out the hard way that this in fact does happen. To make a long story less long, I figured it was in our best interest to cut our losses and head home before it gets dark. I didn’t want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere. To paint a picture of how severe it was, I added fluid in the reservoir and as soon as i turned on the car and let it idle for a minute or two, it was gone. So before our trek home, we stopped at a Walmart, picked up some supplies to possibly band aid the issue. Well that didn’t go so well as the issue was inside the rack where the rack meets the pinion. So we drove it home. We had to pull over every 80 miles or so to re fill it so the pump wouldn’t go bad but it wasn’t a terrible drive back.

Would I have done it again? Hell yeah. I probably would have stayed for the remaining events though but we always have next year. Thank you Wolfsgart for the experience, I’ll see you again next year.
